How many watts are needed to make a soldering iron... →
15W is plenty for tiny wires, surface mount repair etc.
30W is good for up to about 18 guage wire, and more than enough to burn tiny wires
100W works well on 12 guage wires.
All of the above are worthwhile purchases. A temperature controlled solder station will cover this range.

I’ve started an MP3 blog. Partly for the above reason, and partly because I’ve been hearing so much about Tumblr-esque blogging platform Posterous that I thought I should give it a proper try.
It’s nowhere near as customisable as Tumblr, and doesn’t seem to have the same cool community. It generally seems a bit more “straight” compared to Tumblr’s...

Fred Wilson says: “I read this weekend that there are over 11,000 registered third party apps built on top of Twitter. I suspect that there are a similar number (or more) for Facebook. As the primary social media channels (including blogs and blog comments) become fully open platforms, I believe we are going to see a host of interesting (and valuable) services get built. It’s already...

I appreciate the sentiment and all, but as claims of football loyalty go ”I bleed Red” is kind of lacking something.

A very niche social site! But thought it might be fun, if for no other reason than to see how the dynamics of such a community work. And if I find out a few of pretentious oolong factoids while I’m at it, all the better.

This blog post is part of Zemanta’s “Blogging For a Cause” campaign to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes that bloggers care about.

I’ve written before about LIPA (the college I went to) and the LIPA Records compilations curated by Fran Healey of Travis and, erm…Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, so thought I’d blog a quick note about the label’s latest release. Their first selection featured then-little-known The Wombats, donchaknow? But don’t hold that against them :-p
This year LIPA Records is doing...

Chris Anderson over-eggs it a bit with the above description - it’s not exactly The Shining - but still, an interesting read. “An important cautionary tale of Free gone wrong”.

I wish this was from The Onion, but it’s not. Someone at Fox News is actually suggesting Obama’s choice of dijon mustard over ketchup is at all relevant to his ability to govern a country as a “man of the people”.

I didn't say she stole my money →
This sentence has seven different meanings, depending on the stressed word:
I didn’t say she stole my money — someone else said it.
I didn’t say she stole my money — I didn’t say it.
I didn’t say she stole my money — I only implied it.
I didn’t say she stole my money — I said someone did, not necessarily her.
I didn’t say she stole my money — I considered it borrowed, even though she...

And I don’t mind Harriet Harman either. But she has another thing coming if she thinks I’m letting her get anyway near being PM (‘cos I hold a lot of sway in these things, donchaknow?).
