BREAKING NEWS: some people are stupid
I’ve always been a big fan of the BBC, but some of the items they choose to cover as “news” do wind me up. Often it’s the prominence given to some brands/commercial entities over others (Spotify, some festivals) that annoys me, here it’s a complete non-story about the stupidity of two people (“Swedes miss Capri after GPS gaffe”) linked to from the front page of their news site.
I understand the need for some light-hearted “and finally” stories on televised news, but really…if web readers want this sort of content, can’t they go to Digg rather than a serious, world-class news site?
(NB for non-Brits: the BBC is a non-profit so supply/demand shouldn’t really be an issue here - what the BBC covers is dictated top-down from the board, rather than bottom-up from consumer demand).
