Posting xkcd comics is a bit of a Tumblr cliché, but this (ie. usefulness of extra-curricular hobbies > usefulness of classes etc.) is so true. Although for me, replace “learning to code in Perl” with “incessantly reading the music press, listening to records, writing my thoughts on them and larking about in the local music scene”.
