I’m completely re-evaluating how I use RSS in an age of dedicated news apps and Twitter; for me, it’s now just for enjoyable, thought provoking, non-news, non-commodity reading.
I’ve got rid of the hundreds of link blogs and various sector-specific news sites that were clogging up my Google Reader. If anything’s that important, I’ll probably see it 10 times on Twitter, a few more on Tumblr and in an e-mail from a friend.
I’m giving a trial run to subscribing to just the above (a fairly minimalist list by my standards) on my iPhone (where I do most of my reading). I’ve still got a seperate Google Reader account for work-related reading (the startup press on a daily basis, for example), but this way I think I’ll read a lot more things that’ll make me smarter, and lot less Silicon Valley/Apple gossip-mongering.
